LIRR MEMBERS
The federal regulation (49 CFR 219) regarding drug and alcohol testing will be changing on June 12, 2017. As a result, all electricians in the M of W and M of E Departments will be subject to random drug testing. The Carrier has mailed information packets along with forms to be filled out to all those affected. Notify your supervisor if you have not received your packet by May 5, 2017. The form must be completed and submitted by May 24, 2017.
M of W Employees- The completed form titled, "DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) DETAILS" should be given to your Supervisor or Manager.
M of E Employees- The completed form also titled, "DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) DETAILS" should be scanned and emailed to [email protected]. Although it is a DOT form, anyone holding an FRA-Covered (Hours of Service) position with the LIRR in the past two years should indicate so on the form.
Failure to complete the form in a timely manner will prevent you from working after June 12, 2017, so get them in!
While drug testing is not new to some of us, it is new to many and as a result there are many questions. It is also important to note that the LIRR's policy regarding the use of prescription and over the counter medications, which has always applied to everyone, has not changed. I encourage anyone with questions or concerns to attend this month's General Membership meeting on May 15th.
