This past week we once again witnessed the epic battle between progress and regress, an age-old topic we constantly revisit here on Long Island.
Gov. Cuomo continues his push for a third track, an expansion of service from the quasi-public/private utility we all love to hate - the Long Island Railroad. The LIRR is our nation's largest commuter rail and everyone has their opinion on how to make it better. Risking exposure to Long Island's often hostile populace, "public scoping" meetings took place in New Hyde Park, Hicksville, Westbury and Hofstra University.
When Cuomo first introduced this project in January he said "NIMBYs and the shortcomings of the bureaucracy have stolen our capacity for major projects. If we lived like this, and worked like this, we wouldn't be here. Long Island wouldn't be here. You would all be potato farmers." Keep reading...
