Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Now that the Long Island Rail Road strike is resolved, I want to speak directly to our members at JFK AirTrain and Newark AirTrain.
Thank you for your patience over the past several months. The LIRR contract dispute required considerable time, energy, and resources, which slowed the pace of your negotiations. Even so, your concerns were never forgotten or set aside.
During this time, discussions with Alstom continued at both properties. Although the talks have been productive and some progress has been made, the pace has been slower than we would like. We understand that many of you are eager to see meaningful movement toward agreements that properly recognize your contributions and provide the wages, benefits, and working conditions you deserve.
With the LIRR dispute behind us, we can now devote more time, attention, and resources to securing fair contracts at both sites. We expect this renewed focus to help move negotiations forward and bring the parties closer to agreements.
cannot promise immediate results, but I can promise that your union remains fully committed to advocating for you and securing contracts that reflect the value of your work. The professionalism and dedication you show every day deserve nothing less.
In the coming weeks, we will schedule membership meetings to share detailed updates on negotiations, review progress, answer questions, and discuss next steps. Your participation will be important as we continue working toward fair agreements.
Thank you again for your patience, support, and continued trust in your union. We look forward to meeting with you soon and working together to secure the contracts you have earned.
In Solidarity,
Jeffrey A. Klein,
General Chairman IBEW Local 589
